The Victoria Derby: Saturday 31 October
Victoria Derby Day: known as one of the world's great race-days with high-class fashion and fabulous horse racing. The day provides a sizzling start to the racing week with the only all-Group race-day on the Australian racing calendar. The feature race, the AAMI Victoria Derby, is a classic Group 1 staying test for three-year-olds over 2,500 metres, with prize money of $1,500,000. In 2008 Rebel Raider, ridden by Clare Lindop, was the winner ahead of Whobegotyou and Pre Eminence.

The Melbourne Cup: Tuesday 03 November
The Melbourne Cup: 'The Race That Stops the Nation' - The
Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington Park creates a party
atmosphere unparalleled by any other sporting event. The Emirates
Melbourne Cup is much more than a gruelling 3,200m (2 miles)
handicap race, it is a celebration of the Sport of Kings and the
richest handicap race in the world. The 2008 race provided a
thrilling finish with the Bart Cummings trained
Viewed, ridden by Blake Shinn, just holding off
Bauer. For
Bauer's trainer, Luca Cumani, it was a repeat of
the 2007 race when Purple Moon was narrowly beaten
into second place. The New Zealand horse C'est La
Guerre finished in third place.
