Hong Kong International
09 - 15 DECEMBER 2009
We are delighted to be able to offer you the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong to enjoy the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races that will take place at Sha Tin on Sunday 13 December. This superb day's racing includes four Group I Championship events on turf, worth a combined HK$62 million.

In December 2008, Eagle Mountain was the comfortable winner of the Hong Kong Cup, Hong Kong's richest race at HK$20 million. Ridden by Kevin Shea and trained by Mike de Koch, Eagle Mountain finished ahead of the French challenger Balius with Linngari, the English runner, in third place. In the Hong Kong Mile, Good Ba Ba produced a fantastic surge to win for the second consecutive year and also break the Sha Tin track record. His jockey, Christophe Soumillon, declared him the best miler in the world. Hong Kong trained Inspiration, an outsider at 67-1, came home to win the Hong Kong Sprint ahead of Green Birdie with the Australian horse and hot favourite Apache Cat in third. Europe's top sprinter Marchand D'Or could only manage to finish in sixth position. Doctor Dino, trained in France by Richard Gibson and ridden by Olivier Peslier won The Hong Kong Vase by a head from Luca Cumani's Purple Moon ridden by Jamie Spencer with Jaguar Mail and Mick Kinane a neck away in third.

Hong Kong is still one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the world and there is so much to see from skyscrapers and ancient temples to paddy fields and traditional fishing villages. The Chinese are passionate racing fans and it is not unusual for more to be wagered at one race meeting in Hong Kong than during the entire week at Royal Ascot!
